Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDUNCAN GORDON ROSS (BUD) MCIVOR Peacefully after a valiant struggle with cancer, Duncan (Bud) McIvor, aged 73 years, of Selkirk, beloved husband of Marquita, passed away at the Selkirk District General Hospital on May 4, 2005. Bud was born on December 18, 1931 at the old Selkirk General Hospital to Janet and Norman McIvor. Bud leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 47 years, Marquita; four children, Mary Lynne Fabas (Marc), Duncan (Theon), Patti Vandenbossche (Alan), and Cathryn (Mitch and children Quintin and Logan Desorcy); Auntie Frankie (Hay) and seven grandchildren, Caleigh and Keera Fabas, Naomi and Liam McIvor, Alexa, Eva and Jenna Vandenbossche. Bud's early childhood years were spent in God's Lake, MB. He cherished his summer vacations at the McIvor farm north of Selkirk. Later he moved to Bissett where he completed his schooling and worked in the engineering office for the San Antonio Gold Mine. Not long after, he met and married Marquita, on August 3, 1957. Two children Mary Lynne and Duncan were born in Bissett. In 1963 they built their home next to the McIvor family homestead north of Selkirk where Patti and Cathryn were born. Bud worked at the Selkirk Generating Station till retiring in 1989. He enjoyed playing hockey with the Selkirk Mariners and Hydro Hornets. One of his favourite pastimes was spending time at the cabin at Turtle Lake. Here he could enjoy snowmobiling, fishing, cutting wood, and just enjoy nature in all its splendour. Bud had a very good memory as he related many a story in detail and perhaps with just a little embellishing. Bud loved socializing with friends. He was especially proud of his family and enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren as he watched them grow and develop. There weren't many things that Bud couldn't either build from scratch or repair. He enjoyed operating and working on his heavy equipment such as his TD9 and J5 Caterpillars. Bud's warm personality drew many people to him. He had numerous friends who held him close to their hearts. The family would like to thank friends and neighbours for all their kindnesses, visits and support during his illness. We also appreciate the care given to Bud at Selkirk General Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Ave., Selkirk, following a private family interment. In lieu of flowers donations in Bud's memory may be made to the Selkirk DGH Palliative Care or Selkirk United Church, or charity of your choice. A FRIEND TO MANY: AN ENEMY TO NONE. WE LOVE YOU DAD. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
